My Name is Jane Barone-Mac Donald

MY NAME IS JANE BARONE-MAC DONALD AND I AM A CHOCOLATE ADDICT, BIPOLAR, RECKLESS, GENDER FLUID, HAVE LOTS OF HAIR, SPEAK MY MIND, HAVE AN ENHANCED SENSE OF ODOR, AESTHETICS, LOVE OF MUSIC, LOVE OF WORDS. I HAVE A NATURAL HIGH ENERGY AS DO MOST JANES I KNOW. I WONDER IF THIS IS SOME COMMON TRAIT IN THE GENES? WE ARE ALL CALAMITY AND GI JANES IN A WAY.

I am a mother of two, work in communications and events, and volunteer for a community service.

I’m an urban cowgirl on a Vélib’ (bike share system in Paris) and come rain or shine I ride east to west and back 23 kilometres every day in high boots. This city is the best playground in the world and I use it fully. I was born American, in Boston, to University professor parents that were climbing up the academic ladder. Thus I went to thirteen schools by high school from private experimental schools for academic brats to inner city voluntary school for the gifted and talented.

I have lived in many places across the US as well as in Liberia and Papua New Guinea. I was raised in a Unitarian household that was very liberal and my mother has always been very much into social justice. I moved to France after college and I am a true Parisian with marked preference for upper east side (the street art, the poetry, the lively streets, the diverse population, the village). I am also now Italian and have two daughters, Chiara and Carlotta. I am very active in American associations such as girl scouts, different social justice causes such as gay rights, the rights of the undocumented and various community service projects.

My parents say my name is random but rumour says Temperance or Tempest were choices. Yet, my parents weren’t in the good graces of my dad's parents and my grandmother, aunt and cousin point out that in the family tree there is Eugenia, Jeanette, Nettie, Jeanne and Jean. So I think they made a good choice.

Jane offers the safety of a good solid name; you can dress up or dress down according to your mood. It’s the new black or a four-letter word.

I know sixteen other Janes.

Being part of the project was last minute... it sounded interesting.

I’m not plain Jane ...I'm dipped in dark chocolate with rainbow sprinkles!
