My Name is Jane Jaquin

MY NAME IS JANE JAQUIN AND I AM A TV PRESENTER, FASHION PRODUCT MANAGER AND I HAVE BIG AFRO HAIR!

I was born on Reunion Island (FR) in the Indian Ocean and grew up between Mayotte Island (FR), Paris and Reunion with my mother and brother. I share my life between France and Mayotte, my joie de vivre between friends and family and my career between fashion and entertainment. I got to where I am thanks to the love I received and gave all my way to where I am today.

Today I have been writing my next YouTube video series that I will be filming in the next few weeks.

Jane is my grandma's name. My mom was very attached to her mother so she decided to name me after her, as a souvenir. With the approbation of my grandfather of course, I was born six years after my grandma passed away. I have my two grandma's names: Jane and Rose-May.

I adore my name and I'm really proud to have my grandma's name! Besides, my middle name is Jaquin, so my initials are JJ and that's cool!

I don't know what it is like not to be a Jane, but I can say that being a Jane is attractive. Here in France it's not a common name, it's like a rarity. Every time I introduce myself and say my name, I always get the same reactions and questions, "Is that your real name? Where do you come from?", it helps a lot to start a conversation. I have a super-social name that creates links easily with people around me.

I studied my postgraduate year with a Jane from China. She was the first Jane I ever met! Oh and I know a second, but not personally, Jane Birkin.

I agreed to be part of this project in order to discover other Janes and their stories. I'm not alone. When I received the email asking if I’d like to take part the first thing I said to my friend was, "I always said my name was unique and will be known somehow!"

I’m not plain Jane I am a niece, cousin, sister, friend, godmother, girlfriend and a character full of laughter, joy and love!

"When I received the email asking if I’d like to take part (in the project) the first thing I said to my friend was, I always said my name was unique and will be known somehow!"
