My Name is Jane Connory

I AM JANE CONNORY. I AM A DESIGN EDUCATOR AND RESEARCHER WITH A PROUDLY FEMINIST FOCUS.

I had an artistic bent as a child and in high school I had a sharp focus on studying graphic design. I am now the Program Manager for the Bachelor of Communication Design at Billy Blue College of Design and a PhD candidate at Monash University, Art Design and Architecture. I volunteer on the Illustrators Australia Committee and I’m also a member of the Victorian Women's Trust and The Creative Women's Circle.

Introducing my kids to the galleries in Paris and architectural icons in London was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life.

One of the best things about being Jane was Miss Jane on Mr Squiggle, she is still my hero. She was totally in charge of a motley crew of men - Blackboard, Gus the Snail and Bill the Steam Shovel - and had a real de-constructivist eye for art.

My parents were expecting a 'Dean' to arrive. When I entered the world I was almost Kathryn Jane. I am happy it was reversed. I have a sister-in-law called Jane. Yes, my husband married a women with the same name as his sister. I'm still getting used to it!

Did you now that Sinéad is the Irish form of Jane? Nothing compares to it...

I’m not plain Jane, I'm Jane on the plane, whenever possible - preferably heading somewhere culturally stimulating.

"There was a time in the late 80s when a Jane appeared on 'Neighbours'. She was teased and called "plain Jane the super brain".
