My Name is Jane Scaife

MY NAME IS JANE SCAIFE AND I AM A COPYWRITER AND CURRENTLY WORKING AS AN ONLINE MODERATOR - I TAKE BAD STUFF OFF THE INTERNET BEFORE ANYONE ELSE HAS A CHANCE TO SEE IT.

I'm a copywriter hailing from Northallerton in Northern England. It's been a long and windy path to where I am in Melbourne today. I graduated with a first class degree in psychology and criminology and later studied law as a post-grad. A role looking after marketing for a law firm led me into a career writing promotional material for charities before I went freelance. When a friend invited me over to India and Dubai for her wedding in 2014 I snapped up the chance to travel – and ended up working in Dubai for a year doing press for the Short+Sweet Theatre Festival. I love immersing myself in different cultures and very much want to travel again soon, to South America perhaps. I'm considering a career change to youth counselling and plan to try stand-up comedy. A lot for my adventurous soul to pack in!

My parents named me Jane because it was a beautiful, classical name which had come back into fashion. They wanted a name that would stand the test of time, never sound out-of-date or silly in the future and that was easy to say. They feel they got this with 'Jane'.

I agreed to be part of this project because it's a great opportunity to show the world a bit of myself. What an interesting study to be a part of. I would recommend that everyone seeks out opportunities like this project to shine. It can really give your life a boost.

I know about five other Janes, including a school friend who is also a 'Jane Louise'. We're all in our mid-thirties.

Worst thing about being a Jane is the stereotype that does come with it. That we're all a boring, sensible, librarian, cat-owning type. I don't want anyone to assume that I'm boring and sensible. Sometimes I wish my name was something more exotic, like Jasmine. But there's not much point thinking about that, is there?

I’m not plain Jane ... I'm an intriguing, multi-faceted jewel.
