As a self confessed 'handy woman', today I re-wired an intercom system. I also bought and changed some obscure light globes that had blown in light fittings at home and I got enormous satisfaction from that. When I turned on the lights after they have been 'dead' for a year, I felt like Kylie Minogue turning on the Harrods Xmas lights.

My parents named me Jane because mum loves Jane Austen.

The best thing about being a Jane is that Janes are full of surprises. I think people have a tendency to assume Jane's are pretty 'conventional'. No Jane I know is conventional.

I agreed to be part of this project because Jane has always been the cliched 'plain' name. How exciting to be celebrated for once!

I know at least 10 other Janes.
