My Name is Jane Hammond

MY NAME IS JANE HAMMOND AND I AM CURRENTLY COMPLETING MY MASTERS IN CREATIVE WRITING. I WORKED IN TV DOCUMENTARIES FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS MAKING HUMAN INTEREST AND NATURAL HISTORY DOCUMENTARIES, AS WELL AS CHILDREN’S SHOWS.

I grew up in Bath and went to university in Yorkshire. I am half Scottish and half Irish. Having lived in London for 15 years, I recently moved back to the West Country to pursue a writing career, which would have been impossible to finance if I had stayed in London. I want to keep learning and have done a screenwriting diploma in New York, am studying for a TEFL qualification and am now doing a masters in creative writing.

My parents named me Jane because it couldn’t easily be shortened; they hate nicknames (but it didn’t work). When I was little I wished my name was Francesca but I don’t know why.

I travel regularly and love road trips. My most recent road trips were London to Sicily and Memphis to San Francisco

Today I had an early session in the gym and pool followed by writing followed by an afternoon seminar. Going to the gym is out of character but I am determined to get fit before I am forty!

The best and worst thing about being a Jane is the bad Tarzan pick-up lines.

I agreed to be part of this projectbecause Jane is not a popular name anymore, and it will be interesting to see other Janes who take part. And nice to bring it back into fashion.

I’m not plain Jane ... I’m super Jane.
