My Name is Jane Rocca

MY NAME IS JANE ROCCA AND I AM A FREELANCE MUSIC, FASHION AND LIFESTYLE JOURNALIST.

I was born in Melbourne and graduated with Honors at Deakin University where I majored in journalism and women’s studies. I've written three cocktail books – 'The Cocktail' (2003), 'Cocktails and Rocktales' (2008) and 'The Fashionable Cocktail' (2013). I’ve written for a swag of titles from Rolling Stone, Cream, WWD, The Face, i-D, GQ, HQ, Australian Style and am contributing fashion editor for The Weekly Review and Sunday Life Magazine.

Today I have been walking, drinking coffee, doing the school drop off, researching articles, washing and hanging out clothes, looking through old photos and doing crafty things with my 2.5 year old Estelle. And it’s not even 2.30.

My parents migrated from Italy as small kids – their names are Frank and Clara – and believe me – in the 60's they got picked on at school. They figured, ‘Jane’ wouldn’t cop any flack like they did.

I like my name and have never dreamed of being anyone else. I write my own rules. I’m a Rocca by name and Rocker by nature.

I know about ten other Janes.

Worst thing is when I tell people I’m Italian, they ask if Jane is my birth name. It drives me mad.

I’m not plain Jane … I’m an individual!
